Stays ~ ca. 1730-70, from the Musée Galliera
Heavy linen boned bodice with shoulder straps tied with laces at the back. It has a rounded neckline in the front with a straight edge to the back. The bodice is heavily boned with vertical bones hand stitched in place and the centre front is stiffened with a busk. Stays long in the front finishing in a rounded point, extending down over the hips into tabs which are also boned. The edges are bound with bias binding. A large linen label in the front inside reads: “E.A. Abbey”. 1780 AD
